Fengjian Water Town is located at the northern end of Xingtan Town, Shunde District, beside the Koi River. It has the rich water resources and beautiful natural landscape. Nearly ten-kilometer waterways wind the village, with unique features as other water villages in the southern China.
Fengjian Water Town is away from the city’s hustle and bustle. The air is fresh and pleasant; the natural environment is harmonious and in ease. It is a typical Lingnan ancient village. The town is composed of multiple small sand islands. The waterway between the small sand islands in the village is more than ten kilometers in length. The red sand rock embankments are neatly built along the river channels, forming the idyllic scenery of Lingnan Water Village.
There are more than a hundred ancient houses surrounded by the ancient trees. Slate ancient paths are crossing. Trees are shaded where the birds are singing. Flowers are fragrant. It is an ideal place for people returning to the nature for a leisurely and poetic vacation.
Fengjian Town was one of the earliest gathering venues in Shunde, which can be traced back to the Western Han Dynasty. Due to excavation in recent years, many cultural relics of Western Han Dynasty (BC202-8AD), Tang Dynasty (618-907) and Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) were founded here.
There are more than 30 various bridges in Fengjian Water Town, including a three-hole stone bridge called Mingyuan Bridge. The bridge was built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). The sculptures on it are vivid and the stone lions on the columns are beautiful. Jin'ao Bridge and Juji Bridge are the other two famous bridges in Fengjian Water Town. The three ancient stone bridges of the Song Dynasty witnessed the town’s history and the prosperity of Shunde. Most bridges of Fengjian Village cross the river and form cross shapes.
The Shishi Arch Bridge of Qing Dynasty and the Jinshifang Wooden Archway are also popular. Marshal Liang Qi, General Liu Qi, political participation Li Shixiu, and other historical celebrities once wrote poems and articles about the town. In history, many celebrities came from the town, who also joined in the construction of the cultural water town.
