Tianfu Square is located in the city heart of Chengdu. Its form and status are similar as the Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Tianfu Square covers an area of 88,000 square meters and is rectangular in shape with a length-to-width ratio of about 1.5:1. The ground is paved with light-colored granite strips using special techniques.
Chengdu Tianfu Square is oval and divided into two parts by an S-shaped line in the middle, thus forming a big Tai Chi pattern. The two elaborately designed statues are located in the east and west respectively. They are called Pisces Eye Dragon Rising Statues since they look like fish eyes in Tai Chi pattern. The western statue is a musical fountain with a height of 10.8 meters, wrapped by a 58-meter-long dragon shape symbolizing the Yangtze River.
Tianfu Square is the interchange station of the two subways. For the young couples, it is also the best dating place. Many local people would like to spend leisure time and appreciate the modern development of Chengdu in this big square at night. It is a very nice and relaxing place most suitable for the locals.
The golden sun bird statue stands in the center of Tianfu square with a diameter of 15 meters and will be illuminated by 100 colorful neon lights at night. The golden sun bird pattern is the totem and important symbol of ancient Shu Kingdom in history. The lights of the main statue and the nearby high-rise buildings are also picturesque, as is the huge Chairman Mao statue across the road.
Tianfu Square is definitely the center of Chengdu. The whole city spans based on the Tianfu Square. Tianfu Square is equipped with commercial malls on the ground. In addition, there are museums, science and technology museums, libraries, exhibition centers and other cultural places nearby.
