Huanglongxi Ancient Town is located at the southwest edge of Shuangliu District, 42km away from Chengdu city center. It is an ancient water town in western Sichuan with beautiful scenery and rich cultural heritages.
Huanglongxi can be traced back to the eastern Han Dynasty (AD 219). During the period of the Three Kingdoms, Huanglongxi could be said to be a geomantic treasure of both Shu and Han Kingdoms. Zhuge Liang (prime minister of Shu Kingdom) invaded the south and stationed troops and horses here. Since then, Huanglongxi has become prosperous day by day. By the Song Dynasty it had developed into a town or even a small city dominated by bulk tea trade. Water transport of the town also becomes busier with a history of over two thousand years.
Huanglongxi Ancient Town is not only a beautiful tourist attraction, but also a well-known natural film and television studio base at home and abroad. The main scenic spots of the ancient town are: ancient streets, ancient trees, ancient temples, ancient docks, ancient houses and the folk customs. It is recognized by the Ministry of Culture as the hometown of Fire Dragon, a Chinese folk art. In addition, there are many special local delicacies and snacks waiting for you to taste in town.
Main attractions
Ancient streets and squares
Over 2100 years of historical changes, the ancient town is still preserved intact. There are currently seven streets and squares in Ming and Qing dynasties. The streets are all paved with stone slabs. The colonnades on both sides are arranged in an orderly way.
Ancient temples
There are three temples in the ancient town, namely Gulong Temple, Zhenjiang Temple and Chaoyin Temple. They are all located on the Huanglongxi Main Street. There are also two large temples outside the town. The magnificent temples attract many tourists.
Ancient residential buildings
Most of them were built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The main street was paved with stone slabs. There are currently 76 ancient traditional dwellings (Diaojiaolou) built near the water. The "Diaojiaolou" by the river reflects the unique cultural characteristics of dwellings in ancient Sichuan.
Ancient trees
There are currently 6 ancient banyan trees over 800 years old in the town, with intertwined roots and shady leavesThere is also a millennium old tree with a very strange appearance, which adds to the rich beauty and interest of the ancient town..
Ancient cliff tomb
Many ancient tombs on cliff of Han Dynasty have been excavated around Chang Town, including sarcophagus, pottery figurines, bronze seals and large quantities of other cultural relics, which are all of high archaeological research value.
Ancient Buddha Cave
The cave is situated near the mountain by the water. It is quite spectacular to see from a distance across the river.
Ancient battlefield
In history, it used to be a place where soldiers must contend. Legend has it that Shu Wang, Zhuge Liang, Zhang Xianzhong and Yang Zhan fought in this war.
Ancient folk customs
Huanglongxi ancient town still retains many folkways and customs, such as dragon boat, fire dragon, Sichuan Opera and etc.
