Beihai Wetland

Beihai Wetland (also called North Sea Marsh) is a national wetland reserve, located 10 kilometers to the north of Tengchong County, Yunnan Province. It is listed on "China National Wetland Conservation List" in 1994 and is one of the 33 key conservation wetlands of China.

Surrounded by beautiful mountains, Beihai wetland is a marsh wetland filled with many rare plants. The total area of this reserve is 16.29 square kilometers.

The reserve features a “floating blanket style” marsh. Numerous lush water plants are interwoven and are continuously thriving. Day after day, year after year, old plants decompose and new plants sprout, finally becoming 1-2-meter thick meadows, like small grass islands floating above the water.

Every mid-April to May is the most beautiful season in the reserve; you will love the sea of blooming orchids there. The meadows turn yellow in autumn but have amorous feelings distinguished from summer scenes. The aroma of grass is floating in the air and wild ducks are quacking from amongst the reeds.

Beihai Wetland is also a home of various birds. It provides ideal breeding places with abundant fish and shrimp for birds. Therefore, Beihai Wetland is an ideal place for those who are fond of animals and plants and are willing to get close to nature.
