The Former Site of Western Yunnan Military Government was established after the success of Revolution of 1911. It is now located in the No. 1 Middle School of Tengchong. Its predecessor was the Autonomous Bureau of Tengyue Hall built in 1910, which is located in the former Caishen Temple. The Dieyuan Garden is a collection of the carved steles. It was made by Mr. Li Genyuan, a veteran of China, who collected the inks from former sages.
History of the Site of Western Yunnan Military Government
With more than one hundred years of history, the building complex is basically preserved well. From 2002 to 2003, under the guidance of the county cultural management office, the government carried out the comprehensive renovation.
The Former Site of Western Yunnan Military Government sits to the north, which consists of the screen wall, main gate, opera house, corridor, main hall, and other auxiliary buildings. The buildings are distributed along the central axis from north to south, along the hill, with a depth of 103.5 meters. The buildings on the left and right sides are basically symmetrical.
The screen wall opposite to the main gate is 38.6 meters long and 1.06 meters thick. The highest point in the middle is 9.5 meters. It has the three-folded eaves which is the largest screen wall in Tengchong.
The opera house is located to the north, with a bucket-shaped wooden frame. The house is 5.3 meters long and 6.9 meters wide. The gate of the opera house is 2.4 meters wide. There are two small gates, each of which is 1.8 meters wide and 3 meters high.
The first hall is a single-eave, bucket-style wooden building. It has three rooms with a length of 13.65 meters and a width of 9.84 meters. The beams, eaves and pillars are exquisitely carved and painted with various patterns.
The second hall has a single-edged structure. It has three rooms with a length of 13.7 meters, and a width of 9.84 meters. The hall is surrounded by the stone fences. There are other halls of both sides, forming a courtyard-style building unit.
After the completion of the Dieyuan Garden construction, it has experienced some catastrophes. At present there are only 98 stone carvings preserved.
