Located in the lower reach of the Yangtze River, Suzhou belongs to the monsoon ocean climate zone, with four distinctive seasons and abundant rainfall.
Spring from March to May is generally warm and pleasant, and it is regarded as the best time to visit Suzhou. Enjoying the charming landscape of the nearby water towns such as Zhouzhuang Water Town and Tongli Water Town will be a great choice.
Summer from June to September is really hot and humid. The highest temperature normally comes in July, some days in July the highest temperature could reach up to 38 °C (100 °F). Sunglasses and sun block cream is needed. Rainfall drops frequently in summer every day, so it is rather humid and wet at that time. It’s better to take raincoat or umbrella. Boating on the Grand Canal is strongly recommended.
Autumn normally lasts from October to November, characterized by one of the most beautiful seasons in Suzhou. The weather is generally sunny, cool and dry. Sharp and frequent interval of temperature change is normal.
Winter is characterized by cold north wind and heavy humidity. Although it seldom snows in Suzhou and the winter is not as low as other cities in North China, you may still feels chilly because of the heavy humidity and without any warm heater in Suzhou.
