Although tourists could visit Xishuangbanna at any time in the whole year, the weather is most favorable from November to April. The weather in this region is a combination of continental and oceanic climates with an annual average temperature of 18-22℃ (64.4-71.6℉). Generally, there are only two seasons. May to October is the rainy season and November to April is the dry season.
Dry Season (November to next April)
From November to next April, the 7 months is the dry season in Xishuangbanna. The south branch of the west wind leads the dry and warm airflow to Xishuangbanna from the desert or mainland from Iran, Pakistan and India, so weather is sunny and dry at that time, and the temperature is pleasant. As there are fewer clouds and rain. However, there is often thick foggy and heavy dew. The mist rising from the beginning of the night, and won’t dissipate until the following noon, and the concentration ratio of fog is much denser than Chongqing and Chengdu, which not only raises the temperatures, but also make up for the lack of precipitation in the dry season.
April is the most pleasant month in temperature to travel. It is also a peak in Xishuangbanna tourism, as April is when the Water-Sprinkling Festival holds, which is the most solemn festival in Xishuangbanna.
Rain Season (May to October)
Rain season is from May to October each year in Xishuangbanna. In May, the Southwest find is formed, warm comes from the Bay of Bengal. Xishuangbanna enters rain season. In June, the southwest monsoon become stable; July and August is a period of abundant rain in this area; From September to October, the southwest wind gradually weakens and the rainfall diminishes.
