Haikou Meilan Airport
Opened in 1999 to replace the former Haikou Dayingshan Airport, the Meilan International Airport has an amazing growth of 13% in its annual passenger handling capacity. As one of the top ten busiest airports in China, it is capable of serving 9,300,000 passengers every year, with 4,016 per hour at its peak. Having been expanded during 2003-2005, it has one of the highest air traffic control towers in Asia and a specially designed terminal building which resembles the houses of the local Li people and covers 99,300 square meters to meet the capacity.

Airport bus
There are regular bus services between the airport and the city center. The airport buses start running from the time when the first flight arrives, and the last bus leaves for the last flight of the day.
The bus stops at Longfeng Hotel, East Bus Station and Hainan Provincial Government with 35 minutes duration and costs 15 Yuan per person.
Taxi
It costs around RMB50 to get to city downtown area from Meilan Airport within 30-40 minutes, and around RMB60 from Meilan Airport to the city's South Bus Station within 40 minutes.
Railway Stations
There are three train stations in this city at present, including Haikou Railway station, East Railway Station and Meilan Airport Railway Station. People can leave the city by train for Guangzhou, Sanya, Shanghai South and Beijing West.
Haikou Railway Station
The station is in Yuehai Dadao, the west ring road, which is about 20 kilometers from the city center. It was first built in 2002 and opened to traffic in 2005 in due form after the operation of Yuehai Railway passenger service. This service that runs between Guangzhou and the city was established on December 5, 2004. The rail travels on the boat is the first Chinese rail connection that spans the sea. The crossing takes approximately 55 minutes. The entire one way journey takes about 12 hours.

East Railway Station
Haikou East Railway Station is about 26 kilometers from Haikou Railway Station, 16 kilometers from Meilan International Airport, and 14 kilometers from Holiday Beach. As one of the major high speed train stations in the Hainan High Speed Ring Railway, the station only operates bullet trains running circling Hainan Island, including those to/from Sanya, Meilan Airport, Wenchang, Qionghai, Boao, Wanning, Lingshui Yalongwan Station, Ledong, and Lingao.

Meilan Airport Railway Station
This station is an underground train station served by Hainan Eastern Ring Railway. It links Meilan Airport via an underground transit channel. After arriving at Meilan Airport, passengers can go to this station to take bullet train to Sanya without going out of the airport. There are 10 trains daily from here to Sanya Railway Station. The train Journey is about 70 minutes. The train ticket fare is CNY100 for first class seat and CNY84 for second class seat.
Waterway
The city has New Port (Xin Gang) and Xiuying Port. Every day there are 40 or so boats heading for coastal cities and Hong Kong. New Port mainly engages in passenger and car boats between Zhanjiang Port and Hai'an Port. Xiuying Port operates ships to Guangzhou, Zhanjiang, Hai'an, Shekou, Beihai and Hong Kong. In addition, Xiuying Port has passenger liner to Halong Bay of Viet Nam at 19:00 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It will reach the Halong Bay at 08:00 next morning.
