Yichang, a pivotal city in Hubei province, has emerged as a premier destination for inbound tourism by blending monumental engineering with ecological beauty. Known as the world’s hydropower capital, the city is home to the Three Gorges Dam and the Gezhouba Dam. In 2025, Yichang welcomed over 400,000 international visitors who came to witness the harmony between modern marvels and the natural landscape. Travelers can now explore the majestic Xiling Gorge aboard the worlds largest electric cruise ship, offering a sustainable way to experience the “green heartbeat” of the Yangtze River.

Beyond its industrial strength, Yichang offers deep cultural roots and a restored ecosystem. The city is the birthplace of the legendary poet Qu Yuan, whose heritage adds a romantic soul to the region’s rugged canyons. Meanwhile, the return of the Yangtze finless porpoise, often called the “smiling angel,” serves as a powerful testament to the area’s environmental recovery. As a vital hub for inbound tourism, Yichang continues to connect its ancient poetic spirit and world-class wonders with global audiences, inviting the world to share in the prosperity of China’s golden waterway.
