A brand new, world-class habitat for giant pandas officially opens to the public last Thursday at the historic Beijing Zoo in Xicheng District, marking a major highlight of the park’s milestone 120th anniversary celebrations. Spanning an impressive 13,000 square meters, the expansive new exhibit provides a spacious, modernized home for the zoo’s resident bears. Two of the most globally beloved celebrity giant pandas, “Meng Lan” and “Fu Jiang”, have already successfully relocated into the new pavilion, ready to welcome international visitors and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
Designed with animal welfare at its core, the facility integrates an advanced smart management system that features real-time health monitoring and automated environmental controls. To ensure the pandas stay comfortable during warmer months, a custom-designed misting system has been installed throughout the enclosures to keep the animals cool and mimic their natural high-altitude forested habitats. Beijing Zoo, which currently cares for a total of 10 giant pandas, has a rich conservation history and first exhibited the flagship species to the public back in 1955.
