Hohhot Shengle International Airport set to open on November 26
Hohhot Shengle International Airport in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is scheduled to begin operations at midnight on November 26, 2026, following the completion and acceptance of construction. The new airport will replace Hohhot Baita International Airport, which will close at the same time. The transition marks a major development in regional air connectivity for travelers visiting Hohhot and exploring Inner Mongolia.
Designed to accommodate up to 28 million passenger trips annually by 2030, the new airport features a terminal covering approximately 320,000 square meters and two widely spaced parallel runways. Its facilities are intended to support growing passenger demand and strengthen Hohhot's role as a regional aviation hub.
Located approximately 40 kilometers from central Hohhot, Hohhot Shengle International Airport is around an hour’s drive from the city, depending on traffic. Travelers arriving after the transition should check their flight details and ground transportation arrangements carefully, as airport operations will move from Baita to Shengle.
For international visitors, Hohhot and Inner Mongolia offer opportunities to discover grassland landscapes, Mongolian cultural traditions and the region’s distinctive cuisine. With the new airport scheduled to open in late November, travelers planning a trip should confirm the operating airport with their airline before departure.
