Zhouzhuang was successfully elected as a five-star most beautiful place in Jiangsu province. The vote was organized by the Chinese National Geography magazine, Xinhua Daily Press Group, Tourism Association of Jiangsu province, and Jiangsu Photographers Society.
There were greater than 400 candidate scenic spots in the vote, and 18 of them were located in Suzhou. The candidate scenic spots were elected for a three-star, four-star and five-star standard. Only three scenic spots received the honor of a five-star standard while Zhouzhuang was one of them.
Zhouzhuang is noted as a water town lying in southern Yangtze River. Ancient buildings along the river add more flavor to the charm of the town. The water town is famous for its profound cultural background, the well preserved ancient residential houses, the elegant watery views and the strong local colored traditions and customs.
