Starting from February 20th, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport's Terminal 5 officially commenced operations. This marks a new stage in the construction of the aviation hub in the Northwest China.
Covering an area of more than 700,000 square meters, which is bigger than the total areas of the T1, T2 and T3 terminals, Terminal 5 allows the same floor departure of domestic and international passengers. It also sets up a museum to display cultural relics unearthed in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
Meanwhile, the newly opened facility provides passengers with a fully intelligent boarding experience. The average processing time for luggage from the check-in counter to the departure carousel is about 7 minutes. Other improvements include face recognition, no-documentation customs clearance, intelligent service robots and smart restrooms.
Terminal 5 has become home to China Eastern Airlines (MU), Shanghai Airlines (FM), and China United Airlines (KN). All international flights to Xi’an, including those from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, have also shifted to Terminal 5.
