On May 28, the 32nd Beijing Daxing Watermelon Festival opens in Pangezhuang Town of Daxing District. Due to the impact of the epidemic, this year's competition will take the form of the invitational competition. There are 268 groups of the participants from Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, and Shanghai, who are invited to participate in the competition.
This year, there are 1,146 watermelons participating on the competition. There are altogether five awards this year, including the large-sized watermelon, medium-sized watermelon, the small-sized watermelon, the muskmelon, and the new species. In the end, the Jingxin No. 8 watermelon cultivated by Xie Zhengjiang, a melon farmer in Panggezhuang, weighed 172.6 kilograms and won the title of "King of Watermelon" this year.
The festival has become a platform for demonstrating the development process of agricultural technology, and promoting the development of the national watermelon industry. Beijing Daxing Pangzhuang Town aims to promote the environmental production methods, focus on the leading resource advantages, adhere to the scientific and technological innovation, and lead the high-quality development of the modern agriculture.
