Security checks at Shanghai’s two international airports are strengthened from Aug 15th in order to prevent terrorism. An additional 27 checking points have been added in Pudong International Airport and 14 have been added in Hongqiao International Airport. The new anti-terrorism security check rules were launched on Monday.

The newly launched security checks focus on passengers’ dressing and carry-on baggage, looking for forbidden items such as knives, flammable materials, explosives, guns and mobile chargers. All passengers and their belongings must pass anti-terrorism security before entering boarding gates in Shanghai Pudong International Airport or Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.

Now, the security check will take much longer time than before. Passengers for international flights need to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours in advance, and 2 hours in advance for domestic flights.
