An international sailing competition will return to Shanghai this autumn after over a century under the effort of sailing lovers. It was last held during the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
The event was held in Shanghai three times and was won by British athletes every time.
This period of history was “unearthed” by Shanghai Meifan Sailing Club, which have helped bring the sailing sports back to China. The race will be held this autumn in the Huangpu River.
Sailing is no more a sport for noble class, according to the founder of Meifan Sailing Club. He added that people can enjoy this sport by spending only 8,000 yuan a year.
