Ancient Royal Ritual to be Performed in Chinese New Year

The ancient royal ritual for the worship of the heaven will be performed in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing during the traditional Chinese lunar New Year, which falls on the Jan 23th this year.

 

Located in the southern Beijing, the Temple of Heaven was first built in 1420 and used to be the imperial sacrificial altar during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.


 

From the January 1st to 5th of Lunar calendar, there are there magnificent performances will be presented, including the ancient royal heaven worship ceremony, the music and dance to worship Heaven, Zhong He Shao Yue ( a kind of royal music to worship Heaven).

 

In the heaven worship ceremony, 320 performers will wear costume of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and present from the west gate to the south gate of the Temple of Heaven, presenting some traditional implements of royal guard of honor.
