Located on the rich land irrigated by the Yellow River, Yinchuan boasts well-developed transportation facilities. A complete transporting network has been built, principally consisting of railways, six national highways and seven provincial highways, as well as a civil airport.
Air
Located in Linhe Town of Lingwu City in downtown Yinchuan City, Yinchuan Hedong Airport is a famous airport in northwestern China. Over 20 routes bound to large and medium-sized cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Kunming, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, Xiamen, Urumqi and Shenyang have been opened. The flight from Yinchuan to Beijing only takes 100 minutes and the one from Yinchuan to Shanghai takes 150 minutes. Hedong Airport is about 19 km away from downtown.
Railways
The Baotou-Lanzhou Railway traverses Ningxia from the north, linking with the Beijing-Baotou, Lianyungang- Lanzhou, Lanzhou-Urumqi and Lanzhou-Xining Railways. There are express trains bound for Beijing, Shanghai, Xining every day. The Baoji-Zhongwei Electric Railway passes through the central and southern mountainous areas of Ningxia, directed to the Beijing-Baotou and Lianyungang-Lanzhou lines. In addition, the local Daba-Guyaozi Railway passes through Qingtongxia and Lingwu.
Highways
The highways of Ningxia extend to all directions. A huge transportation network has been formed, mainly consisting of many national highway such as No. 109, 110, 211, 307, 309 and 312, supplemented by the roads at county and town levels. The highway at and above second-class level amount to more than 2,500 km and the length of freeways surpasses 1,000 km, markinging the completion of the national freeway netwaork in this section of Ningxia. The per-capita freeway mileage in Ningxia ranks first in China. There are 1,089 highway bridges, including seven large and medium-sized highway bridges over the Yellow River. Ningxia has the largest density of bridges over the Yellow River in China.
Taxi
It is very convenient to take a taxi in Yinchuan and other major cities of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The airport, railway stations, and many hotels and restaurants provide taxi service. The price is five Yuan for the first three kilometers, about 1 yuan/km for the additional distance and a night surcharge of 25 percent from 23:00 to 06:00.
