China Open is a Professional Tennis Championship held in Beijing, China. The tournament was held first in 1993, withdrawn in 1998 and then recovered in 2004. It was listed in ATP and second level tour of WTA since 2005.
China Open is the only international tennis tournament with the name of nation in China. The tournament is hosted by General Administration of Sport of China and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, undertaken by Tennis Sports Management Center of General Administration of Sport of China, Beijing Sports Bureau, Beijing Municipal Commission of the China Communist Youth League, and people’s government of Chaoyang District, Beijing, and operated by China Open Sports Promotion Co., Ltd.
China Open is held once a year in Beijing. The tournament has right to host three international tennis organizations including ATP, WTA and ITF. It is the unique international comprehensive tennis tournament that has most complete settings, the highest number of players and the highest total prize money in Asia area. Since 2009, China Open fully upgraded. The Women's tournament was upgraded to WTA Crown (after only the Four Grand Slam tournament), and Men’s tournament was upgraded to ATP500 (after only to Four Grand Slam tournament and ATP1000).
China Open is held in mid-September annually, and it was moved to Olympic Green Tennis Center in 2009. The center totally covers 26514 square meters, and it is set with 10 competition venues. The central venue is served as the final venue, where can accommodate 10,000 people and includes 17400 seats in total and 6 practice venues. The venue was highly praised by Mr. Larry Scott, WTA Chairman, and it will surely become a shrine for all lovers of tennis.
