Zixuan Winery
At a glance
Zixuan Winery is a 4A-level (the second highest level of tourist destinations in China) tourist spot in Jiayuguan and one of the top ten wineries in China. The Zixuan winery houses the largest underground wine cellar in Asia, producing 10,000 tons per year of high-quality wine. Close to the Jiayuguan Great Wall, the winery is less touristy and more laidback than its eastern neighbor, which can make for a better tasting experience.
Climate
Jiayuguan City has dry climate conditions that are characterized by much sunshine and very little precipitation. Such a climate is perfect for growing grapes and producing sweet and delicious wine. Wines here are made of dozens of different grape varieties, most notably Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, le Pinot noir, Riesling, Vidal, and Gamay.
Things to do
You may have an unrushed enjoyment while wandering around the European-style wine estate. During the visit, you may be shown to “behind-the-scenes” areas to see how wine is made. You can also try delicious wine at the wood-beamed tasting room and even make wines by yourselves and take them home.
