Overview
Phoenix Mountain, a must-see destination in Dandong, ranks among the top four mountains in Liaoning province. Phoenix mountain’s peak is called Jianyan (The Eye of Sword), which stands 836.4 meters above the sea level. The mountain serves as a very exciting climb for those who wish to ascend.
Since Dandong’s four seasons are very distinct, the landscape and vegetation of the Phoenix Mountain also change to match the passing of time. When summer arrives, trees, flowers, and foliage start to vibrate; with summer fading into autumn, you can enjoy the beautiful colors that Autumn brings.
The Phoenix Mountain is dotted with a dozen of Taoist and Buddhist temples, and the best-known one is the Temple of King of Medicine, a temple built to commemorate Sun Simiao, a famous doctor in Chinese history. Every year, a temple fair will be held on the 28th day of the 4th month of the lunar calendar when a range of activities, such as rituals and parades, will be held in commemoration of Sun Simiao.
